Plasmapheresis for long COVID or post-vac syndrome

As a result of a corona infection or a vaccination, antibodies can be formed – triggered by the spike proteins – which damage the cells of the vascular walls. These cells, also known as endothelial cells, carry receptors that are responsible for oxygen exchange and blood pressure regulation.

Following viral infections, antibodies develop that can impair or even prevent these important functions. This can lead to the destruction of the vascular cells. Antibodies against mitochondria have also been described. These antibodies are released by monocytes that interact with the vascular cells.

This results in autoimmune disorders and energy deficits. If these antibodies are not eliminated and immune regulation is not restored, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) can develop. The symptoms are caused by a viral-induced impaired immune tolerance and lead to a microcirculatory disorder.

Plasmapheresis can remove the unwanted antibodies from the blood.
